Thomas Frank name raised as Daniel Farke sack claim made at Leeds United

Don Goodman believes Thomas Frank at Brentford is a perfect example as to why Leeds United should not consider sacking Daniel Farke.

Leeds have made a somewhat underwhelming start to the campaign, culminating in the 2-2 draw at Sunderland last Friday (4 October).

Farke’s position could be called into question should Leeds not find themselves in the top two before long, with promotion the only goal this term.

But in the view of Goodman, while wins have not been easy to come by, he has seen enough to suggest Leeds will soon climb the division.

“For most of the games Leeds play, they’re the better team,” he told MOT Leeds News. “But as we have seen, if you don’t take your chances then you won’t get the results that your performances deserve.

“I always refer back to Thomas Frank at Brentford when he won one of his first 10 after replacing Dean Smith. A lesser club with lesser stability might have decided to look elsewhere. But look at Brentford now.

“They saw the underlying numbers and saw they actually deserved to win six or seven of those games. So I don’t see anything different when it comes to Farke and Leeds United.

“They are the better team in almost all of the games they’ve played but have missed chances. I don’t have any worries about them going forward. If they stay in the lowest reaches of the play-offs for now, well that’s not too dissimilar to last season.”

Frank has turned out to be a superb hire as far as Brentford are concerned, and the Bees do indeed deserve praise for sticking by the German in those early days.

What Farke has going in his advantage, which Frank did not, is that he has experience of taking a club out of this division in Norwich City.

Leeds have not started the season quite as strongly as they would have liked, having won less than half of their nine games so far, but they are still well positioned.

The Whites now have a couple of weeks to reflect on results thus far, before then hosting Sheffield United and Watford in quick succession.

Farke will just be hoping for six points at Elland Road from those two games in order to ensure Leeds are where they belong in the top two come the end of the month.
