We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has hailed the relationship between Leeds United and its fans as the club start preparations to process refunds for the remaining games of this season.
Leeds want to make it as easy as possible for fans with automatic refunds going through for the first two away games, Cardiff and Blackburn.
It’s still not been confirmed if the season will restart or not after the Coronavirus outbreak but if it does it will definitely be behind closed doors.
Meanwhile, a lot of fans sent the love back to Leeds saying they weren’t interested in refunds and they’d rather the club kept the money and used it to either pay staff or buy Ben White.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said the relationship between Leeds and its fans was very important both now and in the future.
“The relationship between the club and the fans has always been a close one,” Robinson said.
“It’s like one big family, it’s a massive club with tens of thousands of supporters and it’s very, very important that relationship is maintained.
“A gesture like that speaks volumes about the club. In any walk of life if you buy something and don’t use it then you can take it back and get your money back. That’s not always the case with football tickets and it’s been a bone of contention for a number of years now.
“The loyalty of the Leeds fans is reciprocated by a gesture like that from the club and it’s totally understandable.
“When you’re taking 5,000 away to Doncaster on Tuesday night, you’d expect some sort of loyalty back from the club and they always deliver.”
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has got a lot right in his time at Leeds, not least buying back Elland Road.
It’s never easy being an owner and he came in for a huge amount of stick when he tried to update the Leeds badge, a decision that he rowed back on after enormous dissent from the fans.
If he can deliver promotion after so many have failed, he will go down as a great at Leeds.
