'Take the risk' – Exclusive: Paul Robinson urges Radrizzani to take big £20m transfer gamble

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that it’s time for Leeds United to gamble and spend the money that will see them win promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds are on the lookout for a new striker, with Che Adams the number one target.

Robinson acknowledges that Leeds don’t have a lot of money available but has said they should borrow now even if it means paying back three times the amount in the summer.

He’s convinced that spending now will unlock new riches at the club when they get promoted.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “The transfer budget isn’t huge at Leeds but now is the time to take a risk.

“This is the club’s best-ever chance to go back up. If it takes £20m on a player or two players, Radrizzani needs to go and get the £20m from somewhere. Take the risk.

“If you go up you can pay £20m back, you can pay £30m, £40m back. Whoever you can get it from, wherever you can borrow it from, get it and pay them back double or even treble when you get promoted.

“Now is the time to get the player that’s needed. It’s as simple as that.”

Most Leeds fans would agree with Robinson here, although some will be wary of taking financial risks and potentially over-stretching.

However, the facts are clear. This is Leeds’ best shot at promotion and the cost of failure could be huge, with Marcelo Bielsa likely leaving if he doesn’t win promotion this season.

A premium striker would give Leeds the very best chance of getting up and we think that Radrizzani must find the money and spend it.
