Sunderland ‘falter’ as Leeds United promotion verdict shared

Leeds United will join Sheffield United back in the Premier League next season, according to Ian Darke.

The TNT Sports commentator, speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, believes Daniel Farke’s side are now beginning to burn more forcefully in the Championship with sides around them slowing down.

Sheffield United and Sunderland face off against one another on Friday night [29 November] which could allow Leeds, who face Blackburn Rovers the following day, to move clear.

“I think the stagger is beginning to unwind a bit. You see some teams burst out the blocks, and Sunderland have started to falter with the intense pressure a little,” Darke said.

“Leeds have moved into quite an impressive gear now – I do fancy them and Sheffield United to be the ones who sustain it and get promotion which isn’t too much of a massive call given they’re around there now.

“The wingers are playing well, the midfield guys have covered excellently since the injuries, and they’re really looking good.”

Leeds United gathering superb run of form

At some stage this season, every Championship side is enduring a halt in form which is opening up the rest of the league – no points gap is ever truly safe, as Leicester City almost demonstrated last year.

Leeds have however won four of their last five, likewise Sheffield United, while Burnley have recovered to win their last three and Sunderland have let slip a five-point advantage to draw every game since October.

The attacking firepower of Daniel Farke’s men – who are ironically the joint-highest scorers (31) this season with his 10th-placed former club Norwich City – has been a potent weapon of late.
