‘Something different’ – Exclusive: Pundit delivers verdict on Ian Poveda debut for Leeds
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Ian Poveda was a “real bright spark” on Sunday and that he could be a “real threat between now and the end of the season.”
Poveda signed from Man City in January and made the bench twice before being dropped from the squad for the next seven games.
He made his debut on Sunday and looked really bright down the right-hand side.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “One real bright spark for me was Ian Poveda coming off the bench. He looked bright, sharp, he looked a real threat.
“Cardiff changed their team to deal with Poveda when he went on the right-hand side. He was one of the real bright sparks for Leeds and I think he can be a real threat between now and the end of the season.
“It gives Bielsa another option. Harrison and Costa are his first paring but this gives him another option. He gives Bielsa something different. He’s very direct. There aren’t many players who run with the ball and take on players and Poveda showed he could do that.
“He likes it out on the right, cutting back in on his left foot. I was really impressed with what I saw.”
Poveda didn’t get the chance to turn the game on Sunday but the way Cardiff changed to cover him showed how much of a threat he was.
Leeds don’t have an abundance of attacking options and he could be pivotal in the run-in.
We expect to see more of him in the final eight games.
