Sky Sports pundit warns Leeds United against 'blind faith' in Jesse Marsch as new signing arrives

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson is worried about Leeds United putting “blind faith” into Jesse Marsch after he signed a second player from Red Bull Salzburg.

Brenden Aaronson signed for Leeds in May while last week (8 June), right-back Rasmus Kristensen penned a five-year contract at Elland Road.

Both played for Marsch in Austria and both of them also impressed for Salzburg in the 2021/22 season as they reached the Champions League knock-outs and won the Austrian Bundesliga.

Robinson admits he’s not fully aware of Kristensen’s capabilities but he’s putting his trust in Marsch and Victor Orta

“Kristensen is a player we don’t know much about in this country but obviously Jesse Marsch knows him and the board have put a lot of trust in the manager,” said Robinson to MOT Leeds News.

“I just hope it’s not blind faith.

“Leeds need players who are tried and tested and are quality players of Premier League level.

“We saw how short the squad was last season and with Victor Orta, we’ve got to rely on his knowledge and you hope his input is going into the signings as well as the manager’s.

“It was a difficult situation for Marsch to come into the hardest league in the world in the hardest situation in the world and you just hope that you trust him to sign players who can play at that level.

“It’s good to see Leeds signing some players because they haven’t done for so many windows.

“The realisation has finally hit home that they need players and it almost cost them their Premier League status [in 2021/22]. You’ve got to hope they get the quality in.”

Leeds also look set to sign Bayern Munich’s Spanish midfielder Marc Roca with Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio reporting on 14 June that there’s a medical scheduled for this Friday (17 June).

Orta has signed numerous Spanish players in his time as Leeds’ director of football. Samuel Saiz, Kiko Casilla, Diego Llorente and Rodrigo have been among them.

In other Leeds United news, a club is “guaranteed” to cash in on this Elland Road-linked forward.
