Sky Sports pundit wants new senior centre-back signing at Leeds United as Diego Llorente spotted in Rome
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson wants to see Leeds United sign a new centre-back for Jesse Marsch’s senior side before the January transfer window closes at 11pm on Tuesday.
Leeds have signed Max Wober from Red Bull Salzburg this month but Diego Llorente looks to be on his way out of Elland Road to join Roma.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported on Monday (30 October) that Llorente, 29, is set to join the Italian side on an initial loan deal but there is an option for it to be made permanent for at least £18million.
Later on Monday, CalcioMercato journalist Francesco Iucca shared footage of the Spanish centre-back arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport ahead of his move to Jose Mourinho’s side.
Even though Servette 18-year-old Diogo Monteiro is also set to join Leeds before the transfer window closes [Fabrizio Romano], Robinson would also like another centre-half to join Marsch’s squad to add more strength in depth.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I still think they need a new centre-half.

“Max Wober’s come in but originally he’s a left-back. Pascal Struijk’s not going to continue playing there until the end of the season but it’s looking that way with things as they are at the moment.
“With Liam Cooper and Robin Koch, it will probably be Marsch’s choice to play those two at centre-back with Wober at left-back and then Strujk is on the bench.
“Cooper and Koch need to stay fit consistently and Llorente is leaving.
“It leaves a space in the squad so you can only think that between now and the window closing, there’s another centre-half coming in.”
Monteiro is expected to join up with Leeds’ Under-21s once his move to Elland Road is formalised.
