Sky Sports pundit: Victor Orta may have had wings clipped as Leeds United target move for Che Adams

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has insisted that Leeds United targeting Southampton forward Che Adams has Victor Orta written all over it this month.

The ex-Whites keeper believes that the Spaniard may have had his wings clipped by Jesse Marsch, who has targeted more of his former players at Elland Road.

It comes after the Daily Mail reported at the start of August that Leeds wanted to seal a double move for both Adams and Julian Quinones this month.

“They need to strengthen that position whether it’s Adams or whoever,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“They can’t go into this season without having cover or no other option apart from Patrick Bamford, you’ve seen the reluctance to play Gelhardt there on his own and Rodrigo and Dan James haven’t done it playing as a nine.

“Che Adams would be an option, he can play anywhere across the front, but also as a nine – it has to be someone.

“He is a good player, and he’s a player they have trailed before, whether that is one of Victor Orta’s players, you look at the signings that have come in, you would think they are not all Orta’s player so you wonder with the new manager coming in, he’s had his wings clipped a little bit.”

Wings Clipped?

If anything, Orta’s job has been made easier since Marsch arrived.

We have heard of regular meetings between the two and that is something we expect rarely happened with Marcelo Bielsa, who was all about analysing for hours on end.

That led to numerous new arrivals, four of which shined against Wolves on Saturday, with more set to come between now and the end of the month.

Whether it is Adams or not remains unknown, with links to the Saints man going quiet as Paris Saint-Germain wonder Arnaud Kalimuendo continues to be mooted with a move.

Patrick Bamford started the season opener with Wolves as captain with Joe Gelhardt on the bench, although another option could be vital.

All eyes are now on Orta.
