Sky Sports pundit thrilled as Leeds United medical schedule for 'massive' Georginio Rutter signing

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson is a fan of Georginio Rutter as Leeds United close in on a big-money deal to sign the Hoffenheim forward.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday (8 January) that Leeds are in “advanced talks” to sign the 20-year-old in a deal worth around £26.4million.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg added on 9 January that Rutter could undergo a medical with the Yorkshire giants very soon, saying that the “massive transfer for Leeds” could cost upwards of £35.3million.

Robinson likes the potential that Rutter has been showing in Germany with Hoffenheim and is adamant that Leeds have been in need of a new striker.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I know who he is. He’s decent, he’s not bad.

It’s a slight risk when you sign anyone, especially when they don’t have Premier League experience or experience at that level.

Leeds need to sign a striker who’s going to score goals and he’s proven himself at the level he’s been playing at. Anything is an improvement on what they’ve got, although Rodrigo is stepping up to the plate.

If you look at the goals he’s scored this season, he’s done extremely well and he’s better operating as a number nine than a wide midfielder or attacking midfielder. He’s better as a striker, he looks more comfortable and he’s scoring goals.

But you can’t rely on him and Patrick Bamford, especially with his fitness. Bamford’s had one really good season and everyone keeps saying, ‘we need to get him back and fit’. But how long has it been that he’s not been playing?

They do need somebody else in that position.”

Rutter is young but has only scored two goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season for Hoffenheim.

The former Rennes striker joined the Germans in February 2021 and has 11 goals and eight assists for them in 64 appearances across all competitions.

In other Leeds United news, this Belgian hotshot is also on his way to Elland Road.
