Sky Sports pundit suggests Rodrigo exit on the cards at Leeds United after transfer move

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson wouldn’t be surprised if Rodrigo leaves Leeds United this summer after Brenden Aaronson arrived from Red Bull Salzburg in May.

Jesse Marsch wasted no time in adding the attacking midfielder, 21, to his squad ahead of next season after an attempt by Marcelo Bielsa to sign him in January failed.

Aaronson is primarily a central attacking midfielder, which is where Rodrigo, 31, has spent most of his time playing for Leeds.

Rodrigo’s time at Elland Road has been far from a success despite becoming the Yorkshire club’s record signing in August 2020 and Robinson feels that Marsch’s move to put his own stamp on the squad could be the final nail in the coffin for the Spain forward.

“Rodrigo’s not really fulfilled the potential that was expected of him,” said Robinson to MOT Leeds News when asked whether the Spaniard’s future could be affected by Aaronson’s arrival in May.

In fairness to him, he’s been playing out of position and never really had a run in the side in his favourite position. That’s all added up to his inconsistency.

Whether he needs a move or Marsch wants to freshen things up, it’ll be interesting to see what the manager does.

I suspect he’ll have free reign to see and do what he feels fit with the squad – move players out who he doesn’t want.

I think we’ll be seeing him playing a different system next season and he’ll be buying players to fit his system so they play the way he wants them to play.

A lot of that depends on what Marsch wants but there will be a bit of transfer activity at Leeds and there has to be because they’ve been so inactive for so long.”

In other Leeds United news, this player is considering his options at Elland Road despite only signing last year.
