Sky Sports pundit slams Junior Firpo, says left-back wouldn't get in Leeds United XI if he was fit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson wouldn’t expect Junior Firpo to play for Leeds United any time soon even if he wasn’t injured.

Firpo, 25, was stretchered off the field when Leeds lost 3-0 to Aston Villa on 10 March.

After the game, LeedsLive reported that the ex-Barcelona left-back faces being out of action for “months” as he may have suffered an MCL [medial collateral ligament] injury in his knee.

Firpo was obviously missing when Leeds won 2-1 against Norwich on Sunday [13 March] but based on how badly he did in that Villa game before he was forced off, Robinson says that the left-back shouldn’t even be getting in Jesse Marsch’s line-up right now.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, the Sky Sports pundit said: “With the way the defence played at the weekend, he’d struggle to get back into the side.

Firpo’s performances before his injury weren’t great.

With him and Pascal Struijk down that side, we were conceding far too many chances and far too many goals.

I think regardless of whether he’s injured or not, he wouldn’t be playing at the moment.

He’s got to get himself fit and fight for his place back in the team because at the moment, if he was fit at the weekend, he wouldn’t have been selected after his performance against Aston Villa.”

Firpo has really struggled since making the move from Barcelona to Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

He’s played 22 times in all competitions for the Whites but you could probably count on one hand how many good games the left-back has had.

The 25-year-old Dominican has also missed numerous games due to injuries and it remains to be seen whether or not his season is over after that MCL issue against Villa.

In other Leeds United news, a new injury worry at Elland Road could not have come at a worse time for this player.
