Sky Sports pundit reacts as Fabrizio Romano details Leeds United agent talks for Azzedine Ounahi deal
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson is unconvinced by Leeds United and their pursuit of Angers and Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Made in Africa podcast (17 January), Fabrizio Romano reported that Leeds have tabled a proposal to sign the 22-year-old and are currently locked in talks with his agents.
Ounahi was one of the stars of the World Cup in Qatar as he played a vital role in Morocco becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.
However, at club level, he’s endured a turgid season at Angers.
The Western France club are rooted to the bottom of Ligue 1, losing their last 11 league matches in a row.
Ouanhi had missed four matches before returning to action with Angers on Sunday (15 January). However, even though he came off the bench for the final half an hour against Clermont Foot, he couldn’t stop his club side from losing 2-1.
Robinson has concerns about Leeds signing the Morocco ace.
He believes that Leeds should be looking to sign better players than those struggling in Europe.
“It’s easy pickings but I’d always be sceptical about signing low-hanging fruit,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“Where Leeds are, they need to improve the squad and not picking up low-hanging fruit from around Europe.”
Ounahi joined Angers in July 2021 and is contracted there until the summer of 2026.
The midfielder started his career at Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and has also been on the books at Strasbourg and Avranches in France.
