Sky Sports pundit moots next new signing at Leeds United after Rasmus Kristensen transfer is done

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to sign a new goalkeeper next with Jesse Marsch now two signings deep into the summer transfer window.

After Brenden Aaronson arrived from Red Bull Salzburg in May, Marsch moved to raid his former club again on Wednesday (8 June) by signing right-back Rasmus Kristensen.

It’s a strong start to the summer for the Whites, who no doubt need to strengthen after finishing 17th in the Premier League in the 2021/22 season and narrowly avoiding relegation.

Illan Meslier and Kristoffer Klaesson were Leeds’ two senior goalkeepers this season and both goalkeepers are in their early 20s (Meslier is 22 and Klaesson is 21).

Even though Kiko Casilla’s loan at Elche is over and he;’s a 35-year-old former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Robinson wants the Whites to strengthen their goalkeeping department by adding an experienced second choice for Marsch.

“I think it’s vital they get a new number two goalkeeper as well,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

We saw Meslier this season and if he’s injured or suspended for whatever reason, that department isn’t strong enough and doesn’t have much experience.

They need a number two.

“All top Premier League clubs carry good number twos so the areas Leeds need to be looking at is the striker and goalkeeper.”

Meslier has emerged as one of the best young goalkeepers in European football at Elland Road.

He ousted Casilla, 35, as Leeds’ number one under Marcelo Bielsa.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch has raided a Premier League rival to secure a major behind-the-scenes appointment.
