Sky Sports pundit: Kalvin Phillips set to accept offer to quit Leeds United

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

It will be “very difficult” for Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips to turn down a move to Manchester City, according to Paul Robinson.

Football news website 90min reported on 3 June that Man City are putting together a bid to sign the 26-year-old England midfielder after “several” enquiries were made to Elland Road.

Pep Guardiola reportedly admires the Yorkshire Pirlo and Robinson is concerned that if the Premier League champions do come in with an offer, it’ll be too tough to turn down.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’s a very, very difficult one to turn down.

They’re the Premier League champions and if you look at the quality they’ve got in that squad, you look at them competing in every domestic and European trophy every season, the wages he could command there and his international career would also get a huge boost.

If Manchester City come knocking and they stump up a fee that Leeds can’t turn down, it’ll be a very difficult move for Phillips to turn down too.

From a completely neutral point of view, you can see the attraction of playing for the Premier League champions, challenging for the Champions League every year and playing in the Champions League alongside some of the world’s best players.

At this stage of his career and at his age, for Phillips, it would be a great move.

I don’t think anybody would begrudge him if Man City came and offered a lot of money. Everybody can understand how that deal could go through.”

On 8 June, The Telegraph added that once the current international fixtures are out of the way next week, they’ll formalise their interest in Phillips by making an “official approach” to sign him.

Phillips went off injured early on as England drew 1-1 away at Germany in the Nations League on Tuesday (7 June) but it doesn’t seem as though it’s a serious setback for the Elland Road fan favourite.

In other Leeds United news, a club is “guaranteed” to cash in on this Elland Road-linked forward.
