Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire has claimed that Leeds United will have a “sizeable pot” to spend in the transfer market this summer.
Maguire claimed that the Whites will receive the first part of their Premier League broadcasting money shortly as they look to build on their promotion.
Leeds have already spent up to £20million, with the loan moves of Helder Costa and Illan Meslier being made permanent.
Maguire believes those deals won’t affect the overall budget given to Marcelo Bielsa, who will still have money to play with to strengthen his squad.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Maguire said, “Yes there will be money to spend as the first tranche of the broadcast deal will be received shortly.”
“The upgrades to the stadium are one-off costs, and even with pay rises linked to promotion, there is still a sizeable pot for the playing budget in terms of recruitment.”
Another sports finance expert, Dan Plumley, shared on Monday that Leeds will earn a minimum of £100million next season in TV rights alone, so the money is clearly there to be spent.
That’s good news for Leeds but fans shouldn’t expect the club to go on a spending spree.
The Mail on Sunday, as relayed by Leeds Live, have reported that Leeds are set to hand Bielsa a £45million transfer budget in the summer.
The sides Andrea Radrizzani won’t want to replicate are Aston Villa and Fulham, both spending way over £100million, with one surviving on the final day and the other being relegated in the 18/19 season.
Leeds will want to cement their Premier League status using the majority of the squad that got them there, and Bielsa will be key to that.
