We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Stuart Dallas is a contender for Player of the Year for Leeds and that it shows how well he’s playing that Marcelo Bielsa is set to give him the nod over Barry Douglas against Stoke on Thursday.
Bielsa said that both Dallas and Helder Costa would come back into the starting XI if they were fit, as he expected.
It’s tough on Barry Douglas who had a brilliant game in just his fifth start of the season against Blackburn.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Barry Douglas did really well for me against Blackburn. He had a really good game.
“But Stuart Dallas has been a stalwart this season in whatever position he’s playing in and he’s a contender for Player of the Year in my eyes, because of his versatility and his consistency.
“Douglas came in and he hasn’t played a lot of football this season but it didn’t show – he did really well defensively.
“Douglas is a natural left-back, a left-footer so he gives you balance on that side as well. He’s a good player and it just shows how well Dallas is playing that Bielsa is preferring him in place of Douglas who’s a natural left-back.”
Leeds fans are split over the early team news. Plenty think that Douglas did enough to hold his place in the starting XI.
However, the Blackburn game is the only one Dallas has missed this season and Bielsa is a big fan of the player.
Douglas will have to look to come on and make an impact off the bench unless Dallas is ruled unfit to play.
