Rodrigo makes claim for coveted Leeds United jersey after 'excellent' turn of events - Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Rodrigo has cemented himself as the starting striker at Leeds United this season, according to Paul Robinson.
The 31-year-old scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season on Saturday (12 November) as the Whites lose 4-3 away at Tottenham in the Premier League.
He’s now scored in each of his last four league appearances and only Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Ivan Toney have scored more in the race for the golden boot.
Patrick Bamford’s season has been yet again blighted by injuries but when he has played, the England international hasn’t been anywhere near as effective in front of goal than Rodrigo.
That’s why Robinson believes the Brazil-born Spain international is the number one pick up front for Jesse Marsch now.
“Bamford was out injured against so it’s difficult. But when Patrick has been fit, Rodrigo still has had the nod in the majority of the games,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“I’ve said it numerous times but Rodrigo is at his best as a number nine. I think he prefers playing there.
“He’s been moved about in different positions but when Leeds bought him he was Spain’s number nine. I think he’s better there.
“Patrick’s injury record means he’s been in and out and not quite fully fit.
” But Rodrigo once again made a claim for that jersey.
“He was excellent once again [at Tottenham] and his second goal was outstanding.”
