‘Real problem’ – Exclusive: Pundit makes claim about Leeds and Liverpool fans
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has predicted that Leeds are going to have a problem with fans, if not for the first game against Fulham, then when they win the title.
Leeds have asked fans to stay away and help the team, and the LUFC Trust put out a video doing the same, with Vinnie Jones and other high-profile Leeds figures.
A report in the Daily Mail said that both Leeds and Liverpool could be forced to play in neutral venues for potential title-winning games if fans can’t stay away.
However, Robinson predicts that both Leeds and Liverpool will have a “real problem” for games when the title could be won.
Liverpool play at Goodison Park in their first game back on Sunday.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I think it’s going to be very difficult for Leeds and Liverpool.
“We know how passionate the fans are and how well Leeds are followed. They’ve got fans all over the country… all over the world.
“As much as it’s the right thing to do and as much as we need to do the right thing in these times, I struggle to believe that fans are going to stay away.
“I think Leeds and Liverpool are going to have a real problem.
“But, if you played the game at Lands’ End or John O’Groats I think you’d still get fans there.
“The reality is there are a certain amount of fans who are going to turn up if and when the titles are won.”
Robinson makes a valid point but we’ve still got hope that Leeds fans will stay away.
It’s tough. Fans have been waiting 16 years for this moment but the very best Leeds fans will stay at home and celebrate at Elland Road when it’s safe to do it.
