'Real deal' – Exclusive: Pundit hails new Leeds signing after shaky start at Elland Road

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Robin Koch looks the “real deal” after a really shaky start to his Leeds United career.

Koch played alongside youngster Pascal Struijk in the first game back in the top-flight, with Liam Cooper out injured.

Leeds conceded four goals but still almost got something out of the game against Liverpool.

Koch and Liam Cooper kept the club’s first clean sheet in a more composed performance at the back against Sheffield United last weekend.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “After his first two starts he was a lot more composed and it was a better performance against Sheffield United.

“He had Cooper alongside him and he looked settled.

“His first two performances, he gave away a couple of penalties and it was a baptism of fire for him. However, he was much better on Sunday.

“He played extremely well against Sheffield United in what was a really tough game.

“Sheffield United posed a really different threat to either Liverpool or Fulham, they’ve got a very different style of attack.

“Koch was excellent, he looked the real deal alongside Cooper and it was really promising signs for the rest of the season for Leeds.”

Leeds were always going to find it hard to replace Ben White, the star at the back of the 19/20 title-winning season.

However, Koch, who signed from Freiburg for £13m, is already starting to look at home at Leeds.

He’ll need to be at his best on Saturday as his side prepare to face Man City at Elland Road.
