‘Real blow’ – Exclusive: Pundit claims big-money Leeds ace could seek exit after 20/21 update

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that if Kiko Casilla is demoted to number two at Leeds it will be a “real blow to his pride”.

A report from Football Insider claimed that Casilla was going to look for a transfer back to Spain after being told he was number two.

Casilla has only played one game after being banned for eight games for racially abusing Jonathan Leko.

He’s one of the best-paid players at the club after joining on a free transfer from Real Madrid. He spent his four years there as the number two.

“He’s got a taste of playing now,” Robinson said of Casilla, exclusively to MOT Leeds News.

“If he’s demoted to number two then it will be a real blow to his pride. If you come in as number two it’s a role that you accept but this is different.

“Whether he’s at a stage in his career where he’s happy at Leeds, he’s happy under Bielsa and how he’s playing… whether he’s happy to accept a role as number two remains to be seen.

“However, he spent most of his life as a number two. I’d be surprised if he wants to go back to that after getting a taste of being the main man and playing.

“You’d like to think it’s whet his appetite to finish his career playing. It all depends on his mentality.

“He’s got a few years left on his contract at Leeds and it would be difficult to offload him. It might have to end up being a deal between him and the club if he doesn’t want to stay.”

There are plenty of Leeds fans who would be happy to see Casilla leave the club over the summer.

Casilla has never taken responsibility for what happened with Leko and never apologised.

If he is demoted then it could be the perfect opportunity for both sides to call it quits.
