Rasmus Kristensen under threat at Leeds United as he suffers at World Cup with Denmark - Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Rasmus Kristensen’s starting spot at Leeds United is under threat after the right-back failed to impress with Denmark at the World Cup, according to Paul Robinson.

Kristensen, 25, and his Danish teammates are set to return home with their tails between their legs after an embarrassing group-stage campaign that came to an end with a shock defeat to Australia on Monday.

Denmark were European Championships semi-finalists last year but they finished bottom of a group containing France, Australia and Tunisia having failed to win a single game.

Kristensen no doubt struggled for the Danes, especially when they lost 2-1 to France last week when he had to deal with double goalscorer Kylian Mbappe.

Video footage emerged after the game that showed PSG star Mbappe toying with the Leeds right-back.

Robinson believes that a good rest for Luke Ayling means Kristensen’s spot as Leeds’ starting right-back is now under threat once the Premier League season gets back underway.

“Mbappe was outstanding. For me, he’s probably been the player of the tournament,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

He looks sharp and he looks quick so anyone who plays against him is going to have a tough time – the Australians are still having nightmares about him.

Kristensen played as a wing-back as Denmark played a back-three but with a back-five when they were out of possession to try and contend with Mbappe. But listen, Mbappe is going to do that to anybody – he’s outstanding.

Kristensen didn’t have his best game so it’ll be interesting to see how he comes back from the World Cup and if he’s still considered as the number-one right-back.

Luke Ayling is going to be rested and had a mini pre-season under his belt, which is fantastic after the injury he’s had.

We’ll see a different Ayling ready in the second half of the season so Kristensen will have a job to keep his shirt when he’s back.”
