Pundit wants Radrizzani to stay on Leeds United board once £400m 49ers takeover is done
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson is eager to see Andrea Radrizzani stay on the Leeds United board once 49ers seal a takeover at Elland Road.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein reported on 6 December that within the next two years, the NFL franchise will buy out the rest of Leeds for a total price of £400million.
It is understood that Radrizzani may retain a “small stake” at the Yorkshire club, where he’s been the majority shareholder since 2017.
Robinson wants Radrizzani to have some kind of say on decisions going forward once the 49ers do go over that 50 per cent ownership threshold, mainly because of all the brilliant work the Italian businessman has already done at Elland Road.
“If he’s not going to be majority shareholder, I’d like to think he stays involved in Leeds in some way because of what he’s done here and what he’s put into the club,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“It’s not just financing, he’s invested his time, his passion, his effort and put everything into the club.
“I think going forward, regardless of what percentage of shares he holds or what he sells to the 49ers, from my point of view I’d like to see him have a say on the board at some level.
“Investment is always going to be a huge thing, especially this coming January because they do need to strengthen the squad.
“But because of where Radrizzani’s taken the club from where it was, you’d like to think that someone with that kind of heart and passion, who cares about the club, would stay in some way when it comes to decision-making.”
