Pundit tips Charlie Cresswell to break into Leeds United first team despite turn of events at Millwall

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has tipped Charlie Cresswell to eventually break into the Leeds United first team and replace one of the current senior players there.

Cresswell, 20, is currently on a season-long loan at Millwall in the Championship but has been absent for the last two matches even though he hasn’t been injured.

After he was left out of the side that drew with Rotherham in the week, Lions boss Gary Rowett said it was simply a selection decision he’d made to leave the Leeds loanee completely out of the matchday squad [London News Online].

However, he was missing yet again on Saturday (8 October) when Millwall won 2-0 against Middlesbrough at The Den.

Robinson still has faith in Cresswell coming good at Leeds and taking a senior role at Elland Road at some point in the future.

Charlie Cresswell’s a top player – a real top player,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

But there’s a big difference between Millwall and the Premier League.

No disrespect to Millwall but it’s a big jump.

He’s gaining invaluable experience at Millwall and doing extremely well.

“It’s only a matter of time before he moves into that first team to replace someone.”

Before missing the last two matches, Cresswell had played 10 times in all competitions for Millwall and scored three goals.

He’s also helped the Championship side keep two clean sheets.

The defender has played seven times for Leeds’ senior side.

In other Leeds United news, an unexpected exit could be on the cards at Leeds after what happened in the Premier League on Friday.
