Pundit stunned by ‘bizarre’ Leeds United incident v Wolves as Sky Sports footage emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson was baffled by Kevin Friend’s decision to send Wolves striker Raul Jimenez off as Leeds United won 3-2 at Molineux on Friday.
Wolves were 2-0 up when Jimenez, 30, was shown a second yellow card for a clash with Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper had to be substituted off with an injury as a result of the collision with Jimenez, which is shown in Sky Sports’ video clip below.
However, ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson couldn’t see why the collision resulted in a yellow card for Jimenez, saying that the players on the pitch were stunned by Friend’s decision.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I thought it was bizarre, I thought it was just a coming together.
“I couldn’t understand why it was a sending off.
“It was great that it helped Leeds but you can see from the players’ faces on the pitch, I don’t think anybody expected Jimenez to be sent off.

“It was a coming together, there was no intent there and the goalkeeper just got there first.
“If that was the other way around, I doubt the goalkeeper would have been booked.”
Wolves were 2-0 up when Jimenez was red-carded and Leeds went on to win the match 3-2 as Kristoffer Klaesson impressed during his debut in goals after he replaced Meslier.
In other Leeds United news, it’s “very possible” this player will quit Elland Road in the summer after an update in the last 48 hours.
