Pundit slams Paul Merson after what he said about Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Paul Robinson has slammed Paul Merson after the Sky Sports pundit hit out at Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Writing for the Daily Star last week, Merson said he didn’t understand why Bielsa is labelled as a “genius”, said he doesn’t buy into the fuss surrounding the Argentine and bemoaned a lack of a “plan B”.
Merson suggested that Leeds may have been sussed out by opposition teams, which could explain their underwhelming start to the Premier League season.

However, Robinson has hit back at Merson’s ramblings, saying that performances are no worse than last season.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, the ex-goalkeeper said: “That’s very harsh.
“If you’re going to suss a team out, you suss them out in the first three games of the season, there’s that much footage and analysis of teams now.
“If you haven’t watched Leeds two or three times and haven’t sussed them out, there’s something wrong because you’d do it pretty early on in the season.

“Leeds played that way the whole of last season and they’re still doing it this year. Results haven’t been what they would have wanted but the performances have.
“I’m not worried about performances at all because they are where they were last season.
“Teams can work them out, teams can try and press them to get in behind but with the way Leeds play, they’re always going to create chances and always going to score goals.
“Merson’s comments were a little bit harsh.”

Leeds are 16th in the Premier League standings with just one win to their name from their opening seven fixtures.
However, Leeds have only been beaten by Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham, three teams who are playing in European competition this season.
On Saturday, the Whites play winless Southampton and stand a big chance of being able to get back-to-back wins and silence plenty of doubters.
In other Leeds United news, Jamie Carragher is furious with this “inexcusable” Leeds team news for the clash with Southampton.
