Pundit sets Daniel Farke challenge as Leeds depth could spark discontent

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

Leeds United’s depth in the right-back position could see Daniel Farke struggle to keep them happy, according to Paul Robinson.

Farke has plenty of right-back options at his disposal. Jamie Shackleton has played there on numerous occasions this season while the established Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas have earned their minutes this season. Waiting in the wings too is Djed Spence, whose return to the fold after injury could provide a huge boost to the team.

However, with such an influx of talent in this area, the German may struggle to keep his right-backs happy. While Ayling began the season as seemingly first-choice, he has since been dropped, leaving the spot there for the taking.

Robinson heaped praise on the quality of Leeds’ right-back option, which allows the club to have the depth and options to fight in the Championship. But he challenged Farke to keep them happy and afford them the needed game time to avoid discontent.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I don’t think there’s an issue [at right-back]. I think you’ve got three or four quality players at your disposal there. Sam Byram played there at the weekend, Luke Ayling was on the bench.

“It’s a situation that he’ll look at thinking, ‘I’ve got these players at my disposal’. The problem he’s got is keeping them all happy and allowing them all to play.

“Ayling’s been a fantastic servant for the club. His leadership quality on and off the field and his quality, the promotions that he’s got the club, the Premier League campaigns.

“He’s a player that you want around the dressing room, but you look at the other options that the manager’s got, I don’t think it’s a situation that he’ll be looking at with any kind of concern.

“But I think for the club it’s a great problem to have.”
