Pundit scared of Raphinha injury issue at Leeds United

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson believes the injury crisis at Leeds United is heaping more pressure on Raphinha as he prays the Brazilian winger doesn’t suffer an injury setback of his own.

Daniel James and Jamie Shackleton were confirmed as the latest absentees at Elland Road on Thursday with them joining the likes of Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Rodrigo and Pascal Struijk on the sidelines.

Raphinha has easily been Leeds’ best player this season with the Brazilian netting seven goals in his 15 Premier League appearances.

And Robinson dreads the idea of the 25-year-old getting injured in what has been a ridiculously unfortunate injury crisis at Elland Road lately.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “With Raphinha, the percentage of goals they’ve relied on him for in the early part of the season shows what a key player he is.

Defensively, he also gives the team a lot more but you want him to be at the opposite end of the field.

“You’ve got to question why they’re all getting injured.

When you look at them, three of them are hamstring injuries.

We know how hard the managers work them, we know there’s a huge fixture pile-up this season and Marcelo Bielsa’s been quite vocal about the fixture congestion and the effect it’s having on his football.

He’ll probably echo that now with the number of players he’s got injured, as well as other teams. Look at Everton and the number of players they’ve got missing.”

Raphinha hasn’t been injured this season but he has missed two matches.

He wasn’t in the squad for the Southampton game due to arriving back late from international with Brazil while he also missed the Tottenham match with an illness.

In other Leeds United news, the Daily Mail has reared its ugly head again with a disgraceful story about this Whites ace.
