Pundit reacts to ‘incidents’ among some Leeds United fans amid Mateusz Klich abuse

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has defended the majority of Leeds United fans after Mateusz Klich was hounded off social media at the weekend.

Klich, 31, deleted his Twitter account after receiving abuse for conceding the late penalty that saw Chelsea win 3-2 against the Whites at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

In recent weeks, Leeds have also had to condemn alleged homophobic chants that were aimed at Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher while the FA are looking into an accusation that objects were thrown at Brentford players [Mirror].

While the best of headlines haven’t been written about Leeds fans, Robinson has made it abundantly clear that the majority are superb supporters who do the club proud and also have away players talking about them.

“You’re always going to get incidents throughout the season,” said Robinson to MOT Leeds News.

Leeds have the best fans in the league with the way they are at home and the way they travel.

If you talk to any away player coming to Elland Road, they love playing there. They say how difficult it is and also how passionate and loud the fans are.

There’s always going to be a small minority, whether it’s at Leeds or somewhere else. But the majority of Leeds fans have got a really good reputation.

Over the years, they’ve clearly had fierce rivalries with Chelsea and Manchester United. But I think they’ve fast become everyone’s second-favourite team these last couple of seasons.”

Leeds United play away at Manchester City on Tuesday night as they look to bounce back after the disappointing late defeat at Chelsea.

After that, there are two more tough fixtures that see the Whites play Arsenal at home and then Liverpool away on Boxing Day.

It’s a testing time for the Whites and the club doesn’t need distractions to be made off the pitch by some fans, who have been letting everyone else down lately.

In other Leeds United news, the Daily Mail has reared its ugly head again with a disgraceful story about this Whites ace.
