Pundit moots Leeds United exit for Victor Orta amid reported Newcastle United talks

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson suggests Victor Orta could be tempted to swap Leeds United for Newcastle United.

Professional scout Football Insights, followed by the likes of the Telegraph’s John Percy and Sky Sports’ George Elek on Twitter, claimed last week (26 November) that the Magpies were discussing the Leeds director of football for a role at the North-East outfit.

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson believes the size of the project, with Newcastle recently taken over by wealthy investors, could prise the Spaniard away from Elland Road.

However, while admitting it would be a big blow to the Whites, he backs Marcelo Bielsa to cope if he did leave.

“If there’s one thing that tempts a lot of people in football and in life it’s money, drive and ambition,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“The opportunity he would have there with unlimited money – obviously, you’ve got the financial fair play situation everyone has to abide by – but that level of investment at your disposal would be an attraction for anybody.

“Yes, of course it would be a huge blow for Leeds to lose him, I think his recruitment has been excellent, but like anything in football, people do move on, people are not irreplaceable, the manager is very, very focused on his squad and his team.

“Should Victor leave, yes, you need someone in that position, but I don’t see any problem in giving the manager more responsibility in the recruitment side of things in the short term, should that happen.”

In other Leeds United news, Simon Jordan jumped to the Whites defence in a major money demand on talkSPORT as Jim White mocked his Elland Road proposal.
