Pundit disagrees with what Jesse Marsch controversially said about Leeds United

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson disagrees with Jesse Marsch saying performances are more important than results for Leeds United.

Marsch lost his first game in charge of the Whites on Saturday (5 March) when they were beaten 1-0 by Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

After the game, Marsch said that going into the game, he “felt the performance was more important than the points” [Mirror].

While Robinson was pleased to see an improved performance by his former club, he cannot agree completely with Marsch’s words as due to Leeds’ current plight in the Premier League, points matter more than anything else.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think the performance [at Leicester] was important because of the way they have been playing and the way they’ve been losing games.

They’ve not been in any games, they’ve been getting well and truly beaten, conceding far too many goals and the performances have been wayward.

As much as I agree the performance was very important, the three points were vital if they want to stay in the Premier League.

This week for Leeds is the biggest week for them since they’ve been back in the Premier League. They’ve got Villa at home and Norwich at home, two games they’ll be looking to win.

If they can put six points on the board this week, that’ll go a long way towards their safety.

Three points now are huge when you look at the bottom of the table. It’s all bunched up and Leeds and Brentford have played more games than anyone else down there.

These next two home games are season-defining games.”

Robinson wasn’t the only pundit to be left bemused by Marsch’s reaction to the 1-0 loss at Leicester.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day on Saturday, Ian Wright said: “I’ve never heard that before.”

Micah Richards then weighed in to say: “I understand what he was trying to say, but he’s got a bit carried away there. You’d take the points.”

Wright added: “Leeds fans would have taken a poor performance and three points today, definitely.”
