Pundit baffled by ‘strange’ Leeds United failure to sign Brenden Aaronson
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson doesn’t see the logic in Leeds United shelving their interest in Brenden Aaronson until the summer.
Leeds saw bids of £15million and £20million rejected by Red Bull Salzburg for the USA midfielder, 21, in January and it’s now being reported by CBS Sport that a summer swoop is on the cards.
Salzburg didn’t want to sell one of their best players midway through the season but will be more receptive to talks in the summer, it seems.

Speaking to GiveMeSport yesterday (Wednesday, 2 February), Express journalist Ryan Taylor reported that Salzburg have already told Leeds they’ll be open to discussions in the summer.
But Robinson cannot get his head around Leeds eyeing up players for the summer in January when they needed players in through the door straight away.
“If it’s a player they really want and they weren’t desperate for him in this window, I find it strange because this is the time they need him,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“This is the second season in the Premier League and it’s of vital importance to stay in the Premier League.
“There’s no point in saving a player for the summer, they needed players now to bolster the squad and improve the team they’ve got.

Salzburg already have the Austrian Bundesliga title wrapped up as they’re 14 points clear at the top after just 18 games.
They don’t need Aaronson to help them in the league but they will need him in the Champions League as Salzburg play Bayern Munich later this month in the knockout stages.
In the summer, they may be able to demand more if Aaronson performs well against the German giants or if there’s a bidding war for him.
Either way, Leeds have lost out here.
In other Leeds United news, a journalist has dropped an exciting transfer update as “big-names” mooted for the summer.
