Pundit backs Junior Firpo to shine for Leeds United if gets more game-time

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has backed Junior Firpo to find his best form if he plays regularly for Leeds United after returning from injury.

Since joining from Barcelona in the summer, the 25-year-old left-back has found himself in and out of Marcelo Bielsa’s starting line-up due to various injury, fitness and suspension issues.

Firpo came off the bench on Sunday in the 4-2 defeat to Manchester United and managed to assist one of Leeds’ goals.

However, the Dominican Republic-born full-back lost the ball for one of the away side’s goals at Elland Road and divided opinion among fans.

Still, Robinson was happy with what he saw from Firpo and believes he’ll get better the more he plays.

“Firpo lacked match fitness but I thought he gave us something down the left-hand side that sometimes we don’t have,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

I think Bielsa played it very well tactically when Firpo came on.

Yes, he lacked match fitness but he gives Leeds something they don’t have.

He’s a natural left-back, a natural left-footer, he gets forward and he overlaps.

I think if he’s given game-time, he will come good.”

Firpo has made 15 Premier League appearances since joining Leeds in July 2021.

He’s played in just three of Leeds’ last seven top-flight fixtures and was booked for the sixth time this season in the defeat to Man United.
