Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to sign another new left-back
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson predicts Leeds United will sign another new left-back this summer despite already landing Junior Firpo from Barcelona.
Earlier this week, Leeds announced that Ezgjan Alioski has left Elland Road due to his contract expiring before confirming the arrival of Firpo, 24, from Barca.
After spending around £13million on Firpo, it’s very likely that the ex-Real Betis left-back will be a mainstay of Marcelo Bielsa’s starting line-up in the Premier League next season.
However, Robinson believes Bielsa and Victor Orta should land another left-back to give Firpo some competition for his spot.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they go into the market again for another left-back.
“It depends what happens to Leif Davis but it is a position they lacked in last season.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they go to get more reinforcements in that area or maybe a left wing-back who can play in midfield as well.”
Leeds were linked with a number of left-backs before they eventually landed Firpo and someone who comes to mind straight away is Huesca’s Javi Galan.
Galan’s reportedly available for just £3.4million (€4million).
It wouldn’t be a shock if Leeds went in for a cut-price deal like that.
