Paul Robinson suggests Leeds United could be tempted if 'Huge' Raphinha bid comes in

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson predicts that if a bid of £50million or more is made for Raphinha then Leeds United are going to find it hard to say no.

Raphinha, 24, tore up the Premier League in his debut season in English football at Elland Road this season.

The former Rennes winger, who cost the Whites £17million in September, scored six goals and supplied nine assists in his 31 appearances across all competitions for the Yorkshire club this term.

Unsurprisingly, the Brazilian has been linked with some of England’s top clubs.

Earlier this month, SportItalia journalist Gianluigi Longari reported that Liverpool are leading the race to sign Raphinha ahead of next summer while Manchester City and Manchester United are also keen.

It is understood that a deal would not be straightforward for any of those teams due to the fact that Leeds – understandably – want to keep hold of the South American ace.

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson wants Raphinha to stay and commit his future to Elland Road by putting pen to paper on a new and improved contract.

However, he’s worried that a head-turning bid could be made for the winger ahead of the start of next season.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Any club can be tempted to with a huge bid for a player.

“They paid £17million for him and then bids of £50million-plus come in, it’s going to be hard to rebuff it.

“I’ve said many times that Raphinha should come in with his agent, say how much he wants and sign a long-term contract so they can build a team around him.

“If you’re going to develop and grow as a team like Leeds are wanting to do, as they are doing, you want to keep players like Raphinha. Leeds and him have been a great fit.

“If they are going to cash in and if he is going to go to that level and wants to play in the Champions League, then another season at Leeds will be great for him.

“It would be great for Leeds to keep him for another season or as long as they possibly can.”

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been tipped to pay “top money” to sign this new player.
