Paul Robinson – Rodrigo will start in place of Roberts for Leeds v Chelsea
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson believes that Rodrigo will start in place of Tyler Roberts on Saturday when Chelsea visit Elland Road.
And he thinks that Leeds have enough to get a draw in a very difficult game against genuine top-four contenders.
New Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has his side firing again and they’re unbeaten in 12 games now across all competitions.
Roberts has started the last four games with Rodrigo out injured, but he made his return to the first-team from the bench in the defeat to West Ham and Robinson thinks he will start against Chelsea.
He says the Spain striker has shown a new defensive side to his game at Leeds that will serve his side in good stead against Chelsea.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It’s a really tough time to play Chelsea.
“I saw them against Everton and I really thought Ancelotti’s team would get something.
“But Chelsea are on a real run and they’re looking good for a top-four finish.
“I’d take a draw right now. I’m going to go for a 1-1 draw.
“I think Rodrigo will start instead of Roberts although I do like Roberts and his forward-thinking.
“But against Chelsea, you need to be more defensive-minded and Rodrigo has started showing those defensive qualities that Leeds will need. We’ve seen a really different side to his game at Leeds.
“He will play instead of Roberts.
“As for the wings, neither Jack Harrison nor Helder Costa have really grabbed their opportunity. Both are struggling for form and I think it’s 50/50 for who starts between those two.”
Roberts was denied his first Premier League goal on Monday with a harsh-looking VAR decision.
It means that Leeds have lost four of their last five games and really need to get something from the Chelsea game or the Fulham clash the Friday after.
