Paul Robinson reacts to Leeds United signing Amari Miller
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson believes new Leeds United signing Amari Miller is a “signing for the future” after he arrived from Birmingham this week.
On Monday, the Yorkshire club confirmed on their official website that Miller, 18, has signed a four-year deal at Elland Road after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Birmingham.
The young winger broke into Blues’ first-team at the back end of last season as he played five times in the Championship.
Robinson admits he doesn’t know that much about Miller due to his lack of appearances in senior football.
However, he still thinks it’s great that Marcelo Bielsa is overseeing the addition of youth players despite the fact he only signs a contract one year at a time.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’s obviously a signing for the future.
“He’s not a player I’ve seen a lot of but he’s not one for the here and now, he’s a signing for the future and putting the building blocks in place.
“We know the manager only signs a 12-month contract but he’s laying the foundations for the future either for himself or his successor.
“It’s good to see he’s not just concentrating on the first 11.”
Miller is likely going to be playing in the Under-23s next season.
Lee Bowyer, Leeds’ former midfielder, was the one who promoted him to the Birmingham first-team after impressing in the Under-18s so we feel as though he should be good enough for Premier League 2 football.
Leeds have a great Under-23s squad and we may see Miller in cup matches.
We cannot wait to see how he progresses.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are just one step away from this major new signing.
