Paul Robinson reacts as Leeds United sign Sean McGurk
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson is disappointed that Leeds United are signing young players from other clubs and not utilising their own academy.
Earlier this week, Leeds announced that 18-year-old attacking midfielder Sean McGurk had arrived at Elland Road after his contract at Wigan expired.
The Whites confirmed on their official Twitter account that McGurk had penned a three-year deal to end what has been regular speculation linking the youngster with a move to the West Yorkshire club.
While Robinson is happy to see Marcelo Bielsa thinking about the future of Leeds, the ex-goalkeeper seems frustrated that the Whites are having to pouch young talent from elsewhere and not bringing them through their own academy.
In an interview with MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’s Bielsa putting the building blocks and the foundations in place.
“We know he only signs a 12-month contract, we know he’s non-committal on a long-term future but his actual commitment to the club is there because he’s signing these younger players that will be ready for the first-team the season after next.
“He’s signing good players but it’s just disappointing these players aren’t coming through our own academy.”

McGurk is yet to make a senior appearance in his career after failing to break into the first-team at Wigan.
However, he’s not the only young player the Whites have welcomed this summer with Amari Miller arriving from Birmingham last week.
And it’s unlikely he’ll be the last with Leeds regularly snatching young talent from other clubs and bringing them to Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, Jamie Carragher also reacted to the deal for McGurk.
