Paul Robinson reacts as Leeds United close in on £7m Lewis O’Brien deal
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Lewis O’Brien will be a “quality addition” to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad with Leeds United closing in on a deal to sign the Huddersfield midfielder.
That’s the view of Paul Robinson after the Telegraph reported that Leeds are “edging closer” to signing the 22-year-old with the hope that a £7million deal, plus add-ons, can be agreed.
O’Brien may not be the star name Leeds fans would have hoped to bolster Bielsa’s midfield this summer but Robinson still seems happy with the move.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s a good player but he’s not going to be one that excites the fans and he won’t break into the starting line-up straight away.
“However, he’s a very tidy midfielder and I think he’ll be a quality addition to the squad.”
O’Brien made his first Championship appearance of the season for Huddersfield on Tuesday night as Carlos Corberan’s side beat Preston 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The ex-Bradford loanee played for 70 minutes before being substituted off and he’d missed the first two league matches of the season due to COVID.
According to stats by WhoScored, O’Brien completed just 70 per cent of his passes against struggling Preston while also completing two of the five dribbles he attempted, made one interception and was dispossessed twice.
Clearly, it wasn’t a stunning return to action for O’Brien but maybe all the speculation surrounding his future, coupled with the lack of match fitness, has had an impact on his performance.
