Paul Robinson raves about West Brom ace Matheus Pereira amid Leeds United speculation
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has been blown away by Matheus Pereira this season amid speculation linking the West Brom star with a move to Leeds United.
On Monday, Mirror journalist David Anderson reported that Pereira’s agent had been touch with the Whites about a potential summer move to Elland Road after the Baggies were relegated to the Championship.
However, Leeds are not yet willing to open talks about actually signing the 25-year-old Brazilian, who shone for West Brom in the Premier League this season.
Pereira scored 11 goals and supplied six assists in 33 top-flight fixtures for the Black Country club, impressing pundits like Thierry Henry, who told Sky Sports on May 3 that “he has an eye for a pass, skilful and he can score goals“.
Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson has also been impressed by the left-footed playmaker, saying he’s been especially blown away by Pereira’s ability to take set-pieces.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s a top player. It’s great that Leeds are linked with these top players.
“His set-piece delivery is what has impressed me this year at West Brom.
“He impressed in a poor West Brom team so I think that would be a good signing if he’s got the attitude and work rate to put in for the demands of playing for Leeds.”
TeamTalk reported a few days ago that West Brom have told Pereira he can leave in the summer transfer window if the right offer comes in.
It was said that the Baggies are looking for at least £15million for the Brazilian dazzler but we find that very hard to believe after the season he had in the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been tipped to pay “top money” to sign this new player.
