We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has said that Raphinha is a £50m player who could play for any of the top-six sides in the Premier League.
And he said that what you don’t see unless you’re in the stadium is how much Raphinha runs and works for the team.
The 24-year-old winger signed from Rennes for £17m last summer and has turned heads with his displays in the Premier League.
Robinson thinks that Leeds will have to field offers for him in the summer and has claimed that Andrea Radrizzani should spend the £33m he’s saved on a fee and pay him what he wants in a new lucrative contract.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Raphinha is a wholehearted player and he really is looking like the bargain of the season.
“Leeds paid £17m for him and he would get in any of the top-six teams in the Premier League.
“I suspect there are going to be teams looking at him in the summer and I think Leeds will be really tested.
“It’s not just his quality, it’s his work-rate, he’s not afraid to come back and defend.
“His talent is there for everyone to see, it’s obvious, but when you’re watching in the stadium and you see his runs and his work rate… you don’t often see it. He’s a heart and soul performer.”
“If Leeds wants to push on and progress… they’re going to be a Premier League side next season, but if they want to push on, they’ve got to keep players like Raphinha and build the team round him.
“If I was Radrizzani, I’d get him and his agent in now before the end of the season and say, “How long do you want, how much do you want?” and then say, ‘There you go’.
“The fact they’ve paid £17m for a player of that quality, his value will be treble that, he’s a £50m player. What they’ve saved on his fee they can put on his wages and keep him as long as they can.”
