Paul Robinson: Matheus Pereira would improve on Helder Costa at Leeds United
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Matheus Pereira would be a major improvement on Helder Costa if Leeds United sign the West Brom star, according to Paul Robinson.
Leeds have been linked with the 25-year-old Baggies attacker this summer. Last month, ESPN Brazil journalist João Castelo-Branco reported that Marcelo Bielsa is an admirer of the Brazilian.
On Monday, Pereira declared that he wants to quit West Brom before the transfer window closes and there’s now a lot of speculation surrounding a move to Al Hilal.

Sky Sports Italy’s Fabrizio Romano has shared the most recent update as he took to Twitter on Wednesday to say Leeds are no longer interested in Pereira, who’s agreed personal terms to join Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
With Helder Costa linked with a move away from Leeds amid interest from Valencia [The Athletic], Robinson claims Pereira would have been an upgrade on the ex-Wolves winger.
When asked if Pereira could be a good option for the Whites, Robinson told MOT Leeds News: “Yes because of his delivery from set-pieces and he can also play out wide.
“It depends on what happens with Helder Costa because there’s a lot of talk about his future.

“But Pereira is a top player. He can get at players and as I said, his delivery from set-plays is up there as well.
“If you are moving Costa on – which looks like it might happen – then Pereira would be an ideal replacement.
“He would have been an improvement.”
Whether you think Pereira would be an upgrade on Costa or not, a deal for the West Brom star now seems extremely unlikely based on the news Romano broke on Wednesday.
In other Leeds United news, everything indicates the Whites are set to sign this international midfielder.
