Paul Robinson: Matheus Pereira is a better option for Leeds than Costa

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has said that West Brom attacker Matheus Pereira would be a significant upgrade on Helder Costa.

West Brom are already relegated from the Premier League and there’s speculation that Pereira won’t drop down and play in the Championship.

He scored 10 goals and added five assists in the Premier League this season and The Express reported that Leeds are keen on signing him.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “He’s a good player, I really like him.

“I think he’s played really well in a team that’s struggled this season.

“He’s frustrated at times with his end product but he’s a player Bielsa would improve.

“There’s been a lot of talk over whether Helder Costa is going to stay or move on and if he leaves I think Pereira is exactly the sort of player that Leeds will look to bring in.

“He’s a better player than Costa.

“Saying that, you don’t want to poach too many players from teams who have gone down as they’ve gone down for a reason. But Periera is a top player.”

There are bigger transfer priorities for Leeds United this summer – namely a left-back and cover for Kalvin Phillips.

However, swapping out Costa for Pereira would definitely make Leeds a stronger and more attacking side.
