We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has said that the loss of Raphinha is a “massive blow” for Leeds United – and he thinks Helder Costa will now get a big chance against Tottenham.
The winger has been sidelined since a terrible challenge from Fernandinho in the 2-1 win against the league leader.
Raphinha was taken out cynically by the Man City player who only got a yellow card for the challenge.
Ahead of the game against Brighton Marcelo Bielsa said it was impossible to put a date on his return.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It’s a massive blow for Leeds, he’s been their player of the season so far.
“We’ve spoken so many times about him and what he offers this season, and you can see from the Brighton game that Leeds just aren’t the same going forward without him.
“There’s no point rushing him back now, though. Leeds are safe and it’s all about getting him back to 100%.
“It opens up a big chance for Helder Costa if he can get himself fit. Rodrigo is fit but Bielsa isn’t going to play him out wide.
“If Costa is fit it will be him and Jack Harrison playing on the wings against Tottenham.”
Raphinha has been the signing of the season for Leeds and he adds a different dimension to the attack.
Leeds fans will be hoping that he is fit for the game at the weekend but we think he’s got to be a major doubt.
While not a dead rubber – each spot in the Premier League is worth a few million – there’s no point rushing him back unless he’s 100%, and a full recovery seems unlikely.
