Paul Robinson: Leeds United will struggle to sign Rangers star Ryan Kent

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson would be thrilled if Leeds United made a move for Ryan Kent but he cannot see Rangers being open to selling the attacker this summer.

Kent, 24, has been continually linked with a move to Elland Road in recent years and The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has reported this week that the ex-Liverpool winger isn’t someone who should be discounted by fans going in the final stages of the summer transfer window.

While ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson feels Kent would walk into Marcelo Bielsa’s starting line-up at Elland Road, he feels that Rangers would want a lot of money for their star attacker.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think he’ll have an impact in the Premier League – I really do.

I was very impressed last season when I saw him and I think he’s the kind of player who can come into the starting 11 and have an impact.

I don’t think they’ll be able to get him out of Rangers this year because of the way that club is doing at the moment. To get a player like Ryan Kent out of Rangers, financially, it has to be very beneficial.”

During his time in Scotland, Kent has scored 27 goals and supplied 29 assists in 130 appearances across all competitions for Rangers.

The left-sided winger has tore up the Scottish Premiership with his ability to cut inside and link up with fellow attackers while also using his pace and trickery to beat defenders and fire shots at goal.

In April, ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd dubbed the winger “phenomenal” on Sky Sports.

After losing Ezjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez while doubts remain about Helder Costa’s future in West Yorkshire, signing a new winger could be on the cards for Leeds.

It’ll be a massive move if the Whites do sign Kent but it may have until later in the summer when Rangers’ Champions League fate is decided.

As it stands, Steven Gerrard’s men are 2-1 behind in their qualifier against Malmo, with the second leg set to be played at Ibrox next week.

If they lose that, it could help Leeds strike a deal for the former Liverpool attacker.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an approach to sign this English forward whose value is soaring.
