Paul Robinson: Leeds United ace Phillips could be subject of irresistible bid next summer

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson is worried that if Kalvin Phillips impresses for Leeds United this season, the midfielder could be the subject of an irresistible bid from another club next summer.

Phillips, 25, was one of England’s best players at the European Championships this summer and was superb for the Whites last season in the Premier League.

There’s no doubt that Robinson is a massive fan of the midfielder but he’s concerned that Leeds may have their head turned by a massive offer next summer if he plays well again in the top-flight.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “After the Euros that Kalvin Phillips had he’s going to have a lot of confidence.

We know what a quality player he is but I just worry he has a fantastic season and somebody comes in with a bid next summer that Leeds cannot turn down.

It’s that big because that’s the type of level he’s on at the moment.”

With the financial powers of English football seemingly growing stronger and stronger with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all sealing massive deals this summer, it seems inevitable that a club will come in for Phillips one day.

He is a boyhood Leeds fan and has been here his whole career but having seen how Man City plucked Jack Grealish away from Aston Villa for £100million, you have to hold a slight fear that the same could happen to our favourite defensive midfielder.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen because so far this summer, nothing has suggested that anyone will be coming in for Phillips.

However, next summer is a complete unknown as of yet and we all know how well Phillips can perform in the Premier League and on the major international stage.
