Paul Robinson: Harry Winks is 'perfect' for Leeds
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has said that Tottenham’s Harry Winks would be the ‘perfect’ summer signing for Leeds United.
He said that the midfielder could play the Kalvin Phillips role or in a more advanced position, and could be on his way after falling out of favour at Tottenham.
He said Winks would be ‘devastated’ after missing out on the Euros because of his lack of game time.
Winks is rated at £19.8m on Transfermarkt, down from a high of £36m in 2019.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I would love to see Harry Winks come to Leeds.
“He can do the holding midfield role and the attacking side of things as well.
“He can play anywhere in the midfield, defensive or advanced, but he’s very, very good at the defensive side of things.
“What I’m saying is that in this Leeds side you need two strings to your bow, you can’t just be one-dimensional.
“Winks can do all the jobs. Leeds need a left-back through the door but when they sign one, I’d love to see Winks sign for Leeds this summer.
“His lack of game-time means he could definitely be on his way out. I think he’s going to be devastated to miss out on the Euros this summer because he hasn’t played enough football.
“He has come back into the fold under Ryan Mason but he didn’t play at the weekend.
“I’d love to see him at Elland Road this summer. He’s perfect for Leeds – he’s the type of player that Marcelo Bielsa would really improve. He can play the Phillips position when he’s not fit and play in a more advanced role when he’s playing.”
