Paul Robinson expects 'big bids' for Leeds United duo Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Paul Robinson expects “big bids” to be tabled for Leeds United duo Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha in the near future.
Barcelona have recently been linked with a move for Raphinha [Fichajes] while Phillips has regularly had to deal with speculation about a move away from Elland Road.
While Barca aren’t the financial power they used to be in football, Robinson still feels as though the La Liga giants have a head-turning capability about them.
However, Robinson adds that if Leeds don’t start winning medals or qualifying for Europe then they may end up having to sell on some of their best players and using that money to reinvest in the squad.
“No matter what club you’re at, Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“We know that at the moment, they’re not able to compete financially at the level they used to but if Barca come calling, it’s always a huge draw.
“I don’t think Leeds’ worry is Barcelona, I think Leeds’ worry is anybody that can afford Raphinha.
“From Leeds’ point of view, the worry is Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, they’re the two best players at the club.
“I’ve got no worries whatsoever about staying in the Premier League but I worry big bids will come in for the likes of Phillips and Raphinha.
“It’s how you react to those bids and if you do accept them, it’s about how you use the money to rebuild without them.
“ Those two players will have aspirations of playing in the Champions League and winning medals.
“If Leeds aren’t following that kind of desire, then bids will come in for those types of players.”
