Paul Robinson can’t see Kiko Casilla playing for Leeds United again

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson does not expect to see Kiko Casilla play for Leeds United again after a recent interview by the Spanish goalkeeper.

Casilla, 34, told AS last month that his “intention is to stay in Spain” once his season-long loan spell at Elche expires.

The ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper returned to La Liga last month, joining Elche on a temporary basis.

It seems as though if all goes well, Casilla wants to stay in Spain permanently and Robinson fully expects that to happen.

“I think it was a deal that worked very, very well for both parties,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

He was on a huge wage, wasn’t playing, wasn’t good enough and it was time for both parties to part way.

The club obviously wanted to get him out and he wanted to move on at his age.

It’s a deal that works for everyone and I can’t see him being at Elland Road again.”

Casilla’s move away from Leeds is long overdue and while we’re happy that he’s gone out on loan, it would have been more ideal for him to go permanently.

It remains to be seen how much of Casilla’s wages are being paid by Elche because, as Robinson says, he is a high-earning player on the books at Elland Road.

But the Spaniard hasn’t been worth the money at all, proving himself to be a liability for the club.

Kristoffer Klaesson has arrived from Valerenga to take the number two spot in goals with Illan Meslier retaining the number one jersey.

We’re excited to see how 20-year-old Klaesson progresses at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, everything indicates the Whites are set to sign this international midfielder.
