Paul Robinson blown away by Illan Meslier despite Leeds United ‘mistake’
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Paul Robinson believes Leeds United star Illan Meslier is turning into a top goalkeeper despite a potentially costly error in the 1-0 win over Watford.
Meslier, 21, recorded his first clean sheet of the Premier League season at Elland Road on Saturday as the Whites overcame the Hornets with a goal from Diego Llorente.
However, controversy ensued after the visitors believed they had scored an equaliser following a mistake from Meslier who dropped a cross, presenting an open goal to Christian Kabasele.

The Belgian’s effort was ruled out, though, after it was deemed that there was a foul on Leeds captain Liam Cooper.
Ex-Leeds shot-stopper Robinson suggests Meslier was a lucky man at the weekend, but shared how much the Frenchman is impressing him.
“That was the first mistake that he’s made this year,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“It’s understandable but it was a mistake and it could have cost the team. That’s the life of a goalkeeper unfortunately.
“But 95% of the time this season, he’s been where he was last season. He doesn’t, to me, look error prone. He looks confident.
“He looks stronger this season which will happen over time. I think he’s becoming a top goalkeeper.”
