Paul Robinson: It’s time for Ezgjan Alioski to quit Leeds United

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

It’s time for Ezgjan Alioski to move on and leave Leeds United for good, according to Paul Robinson.

Alioski, 29, reached the end of his contract at Elland Road earlier this week but the versatile left-back still has the chance to sign a new deal with the Yorkshire club.

The Mirror reported last month that the Whites haven’t given up on keeping hold of Alioski but the chances of him staying, right now, aren’t looking to great.

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson feels as though the Galatarasay speculation and his lack of defensive nous means it’s time for Alioski to move on, especially as he doesn’t see the North Macedonian being able to get much game time if he stays.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’s time for him to move on.

If he wants to play first-team football next season it’s not going to be at Leeds United.

It’s time for him to move on.

He burnt a lot of bridges over Galatasaray and hasn’t been great defensively – although he has had a good Euros.

On the back of that performance at the Euros, he’ll probably get a half-decent move, which is what is best for him.

He’s not going to play regularly at Leeds.”

Alioski will go down as a modern day-favourite no matter what happens with his future.

We hope he doesn’t go to Galatasaray but it’s all gone quiet on that front after the controversy that surrounded reports linking him to Istanbul.

Alioski did do well at the European Championships with North Macedonia.

We’ll see what happens with him but we doubt Alioski will be in our squad next season.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are just one step away from this major new signing.
